What is hair tinsel?

Hair tinsel is thin, lightweight, and sparkly strands that are tied to individual hairs to add a touch of shimmer to your style. It comes in a variety of colors and blends seamlessly with your hair, catching the light for a fun and magical effect. Perfect for everyday glam, special occasions, or just adding a little extra sparkle to your look!

How long does it last?

Silk hair tinsel is securely tied to a single strand of hair, ensuring it stays in place. However, because we shed hair daily, the strand the tinsel is attached to will eventually fall out. The tinsel can stay in your hair for anywhere from a few days to a few months or longer, depending on your hair’s shedding cycle. Keep in mind that different hair types may hold the tinsel better than others—thicker or coarser hair tends to hold it more securely than finer hair.

Can KIDS get tinsel?

Absolutely! I love adding sparkle to kids' hair 💖 However, please note that younger children tend to have finer, softer hair, which means the tinsel may not last as long as it does in older kids or adults.I'm happy to tinsel children of any age as long as they can sit somewhat still during the session — tinseling wiggly heads can be tricky! 😅For best results, I recommend tinsel for ages 5 and up, but I’m totally open to trying it on younger kids if the parent feels their child is ready.

How Should I Prepare for my Appointment?

Great question! For the best results, you’ll want to come with clean, dry hair—no heavy products like hairspray, oils, or gels. When hair is damp or coated in product, it can be hard to separate individual strands (and sparkles need their own little stage!).Give your hair a good brush before you arrive—this helps shed any loose hairs that were ready to fall out anyway and gives us a better chance of tying the tinsel to strong, healthy strands. Plus, clean, brushed hair is a dream to work with.So just wash and dry your hair beforehand, skip the styling products, and come ready to sparkle!

How do I maintain my tinsel?

To maintain your hair tinsel, treat it gently to ensure it lasts as long as possible. You can wash and style your hair as usual, but avoid excessive tugging or using high heat directly on the strands. If you use a flat iron or curling iron, keep the temperature below 400°F to prevent damage. Brushing your hair gently and avoiding heavy conditioners or oils at the roots will also help keep your tinsel secure and looking its best. If the tinsel starts to slide down the hair shaft, just trim any extra length.

What about hair dye?

Yes! You can dye your hair with tinsel in, and it won’t affect the color or sparkle. The tinsel itself won’t absorb dye, so it will stay just as shiny and vibrant as before. The only thing to keep in mind is that tinsel is attached to individual hairs, and since hair naturally sheds over time, some strands may fall out. If coloring your hair causes extra shedding, you might lose a few tinsel strands along with it—but otherwise, your sparkle will stay put!
